SS21 Lybro Featuring VC Pines
London-based musician VC Pines styled some of the Lybro pieces from our latest drop, including a firm Cabourn favourite – the Naval Dungaree. Inspired by the loose-fitting ‘deck bibs’ worn by the US Naval officers during the Second World War. To suit the warmer season, our dungarees are available in a blend of cotton and linen, as well as the version made from a mix of canvas and herringbone cotton.
VC Pines (also known as Jack Mercer) has just released a new single on Theory Records "Smoke Without Fire" (Spotify link at the bottom of the article). As he alludes to, music and clothes have always had a symbiotic relationship: "I wear a lot of vintage clothing, I try to find strange and rare pieces to wear on stage and a lot of them tend to be old military pieces from all over the world. I think that’s why I love to wear Cabourn dungarees too, all of Cabourn's clothes have a clear link to vintage military uniforms, and the dungarees in particular have that uniqueness to them. The huge pockets and their oversized nature can look even more bizarre under stage lighting which I think is really cool. I just like to stand apart from most people and I think they definitely do a lot of the work haha."
A brand-new design for this SS21 season is the Track Smock. This piece features an oversized hooded anorak and has been created with a 1950s vintage Swiss cold-weather mountain smock in mind and features heavy duty metal buttons, a drawstring waist and a half-button placket down the front.
Layered with our Army Gym Sweatshirt in Racing Gold is this season’s British Army Jacket in US Green. Our British Army Jacket has returned for a few seasons now, with each time improving its elements and is a hard-to-beat hard-wearing, functional jacket. This season, it is manufactured using a cotton and linen blend with a contrast of natural and dyed yarn, creating a slightly textured look. As always, this can be paired with our British Army Pants to create a summer utility suit.
As the UK is still in lockdown, our ode to relieving boredom in the first lockdown (way back in March 2020) is worth highlighting again.
We were very lucky to have a whole host of very talented musicians, DJs, composers and staff select some of their favourite music offerings. Including the likes of David Holmes, Andy Bell, Alexis Taylor from Hot Chip and VC Pines, check out our journal post about the Cabourn Quarantunes Spotify series.
Listen to the VC Pines Spotify playlist here. His selection skipped from Westside Gunn to the Walker Brothers, as well as featuring a couple of his own tracks, ‘Cracks’ and ‘Bones’.
February 2021 also sees the release of the new single from VC Pines – “Smoke Without Fire”. Channelling his neo-soul sound with rich, luxurious vocals, “Smoke Without Fire” is released through Theory Records and available to listen on Spotify here.
