《A Stunning Duck Hunter Camo Series》 40s USMC JACKET MIX - DUCK HUNTER

Among the SS26 collection, the "DUCK HUNTER CAMO" series is attracting particular attention.

Duck Hunter Camo is a camouflage pattern characterised by its irregular spotted pattern, which was adopted by the US military during World War II in the 1940s.

Its official adoption period was very short, only 2-3 years (around 1942-1944), and production numbers were limited, which is why it is now highly valued in the vintage market.

Nigel Cabourn will release nine items using duck hunter camo, a fabric with such rarity and historical significance. This time, we'll focus on "jackets" and introduce them to you.

This is a meticulously crafted garment that combines details from military jackets used by the US military in the 1940s.

It is based on the U.S. Army's "M-42". This jacket uses frogskin camouflage and has a background derived from suits (overalls). Super Vintage was only used by a limited number of units, such as snipers, engineers, and armoured divisions. This jacket is characterised by its entirely concealed button closure at the front. This is a rational detail designed to prevent snagging, considering its intended use in the limited space inside a tank.

On the other hand, this product adopts the pocket detail located in the centre of the front of the "P-44" that was operated by the United States Marine Corps (USMC). Not only the pockets, but also the front buttons are exposed, following the design of the P-44.

Based on these designs, it's likely that this product is named "USMC". The Army and the Marine Corps. Considering that both units had previously used frogskin camouflage, this hybrid design certainly has merit.

What's noteworthy is its practicality. The front features a total of four pockets, including a chest pocket and a central pocket, ensuring ample storage capacity. The pocket placement and size have been adjusted to be more practical for everyday use, while still retaining the vintage design.

Another distinctive feature is the shorter length, which recreates the atmosphere of that era. This design, which prioritises "ease of movement" as seen in workwear and military clothing, has gained strong support in the modern fashion scene.

And the defining detail of this jacket is the "duck hunter camo paneling."

At the time, duck hunter camo was used with one side facing the jungle and the other side for camouflage on beaches after landing. There's an anecdote that its surface camouflage was so similar to that of the enemy German army during combat that it led to many friendly fire incidents and was eventually withdrawn from service.

Taking advantage of the reversible nature of the camouflage pattern, this product features a design that combines both the front and back sides. The collar, the centre of the front panel, and the elbow patches use the reverse side of the fabric, which has a strong brownish tint.

This product is suitable for this specification because there is not a significant difference in tone between the front and back compared to vintage models.

For styling, a military or workwear-inspired look would be ideal. The item itself has a strong presence, so it looks great even when styled simply. Personally, I also like the styling that incorporates a tie.

Made from a 50% cotton, 50% nylon fabric, it's incredibly lightweight and comfortable to wear. With its wide fit, it offers excellent ventilation, making it the perfect jacket to wear right now.
