First of all, what are "M-51 cargo pants"?
I think there are fewer women who know what the M-51 is.
...The answer is, as the name suggests, the field overpants adopted by the US Army in 1951. The M-51 established its position as military wear and can be said to be the prototype of modern cargo pants.
To be honest, before I joined Nigel Cabourn, I had worn cargo pants as a fashion piece, but I had never really thought about their origins, the historical context, or the original intent behind the details.
I think I just wore them because it had a masculine, cool look.
Modern fashion is filled with a wide variety of styles and trends, but we hope that you will try incorporating Nigel Cabourn's clothes more casually and in a more personal way, while cherishing the feeling of what you like when you pick up a product.

Now let's take a look at the details.
【Fabric】The fabric is back satin. It has a very rigid structure and is made of 100% cotton, just like the original M-51.
【Dyeing】The dye used is threne dye, more commonly known as vat dye, and also known as tatezome dye. This dyeing method is suitable for natural fibres such as cotton and linen, and is less prone to fading than general reactive dyes. It is also extremely resistant to washing and friction, so it is often used for uniforms.
This dyeing method works in the same way as the long-familiar "indigo dyeing," in which an alkaline dye is soaked into the fabric (or thread) and then spread out in the air to oxidise, causing the colour to develop and set. The distinctive feature of this method is that the texture improves the more you wear it.

The waist has a relatively loose fit, but there are adjustable side straps so you can wear it without a belt and still adjust the size.
The right hand pocket is a magazine pocket, characteristic of the British military. This is an original addition by Nigel Cabourn that is not found on the M-51.

There are four buttons on the front and two on the back which can be used to fasten on a pair of suspenders.

The zip is a faithful reproduction of the historic zipper brand WALDES, which existed in the United States in the 1930s. This attention to detail is evident even in the parts of the garment that cannot be seen, which is one of the great things about Nigel Cabourn's manufacturing.

When you fasten the waist adjuster buttons it looks like this, and the waist position is set, allowing you to wear them comfortably.

There are large cargo pockets on both thighs. They're not just there for as a design feature, they can actually hold a lot of stuff.
The string coming out from the pocket was originally meant to be wrapped around the legs to securely hold items inside, but I don't think it's used that way much these days, so you can just tie it loosely to show it off, or you can tuck it inside the pocket.

This pair of CARGO PANTS is packed with functional details, such as tucks that make it easy to bend your knees, and a drawstring at the hem.

When talking of ARMY CARGO PANTS, you probably think of green, but I also recommend the khaki colour for women. It's a colour that wasn't ever made the original vintage version, but it has a less military feel than the green and gives a softer look.
