Those who have already seen the catalog were probably blown away by the double-page spread on pages 92 and 94. This season's Aloha shirts have elements never before seen from Nigel Cabourn; they may seem flashy at first glance, but they're also kind of endearing. They're a must-see.

- GYOGUN -

The design is modelled after "Gyo-zu" (School of Fish), a painting by Ito Jakuchu, a Japanese painter who lived in the mid-Edo period. This work depicts 18 kinds of marine creatures and, unusually for the time, uses pigments and dyes to vividly depict the details of the creatures, making it a timeless piece that remains relevant even today.

While most people would simply use the original artwork as is, Nigel Cabourn takes a different approach.  The design team felt that "the colours were too bright to incorporate into Nigel Cabourn's collection," so they darkened the colour tones to evoke the image of an octopus squirting ink and an anglerfish stirring up sand in the darkened underwater world depicted in "Gyo-zu," resulting in a colour scheme that is distinctly Nigel Cabourn.

The print uses a technique often used in camouflage, where the printing plate is changed depending on the colour to create a sense of depth.

Unlike prints made in one go, the subtle texture created by the overlapping colours is irresistible.

As a fun fact, the reason the creatures in the illustration are facing diagonally downwards is said to be because the flathead fish and anglerfish among them are bottom-dwelling fish and swim towards the seabed, hence the orientation.

- EAGLE -

This design is modelled after the kimono, a traditional Japanese garment.

The origin lies in the fact that the kimono was brought to Hawaii and made into an aloha shirt. Perhaps that's why it has a different atmosphere from the typical image of an aloha shirt.

The colours are different from those of the time, and are composed using Nigel Cabourn's own unique recipe.

Because it uses the screen printing technique, the print has excellent colour reproduction, which perfectly suits the large and impressive eagle design.

At first glance it may seem flashy, but the eagle's face has a calm and gentle expression, so the impression may change when you wear it.

The blend of vintage aloha shirts and kimonos, Japan and America, is also a point that is typical of Nigel Cabourn.

The fabric is 100% rayon.

It has a strong image of being a delicate fabric and you might think it can't be washed, but the label says it's hand washable. Some of our staff members are brave enough to wash it in the washing machine, so it might be a good idea not to be too concerned about its delicate nature.

The silhouette is the same as the ALOHA SHIRT that was also available in last year's HIGH SUMMER COLLECTION.

The width is ample, but the length is not too long, and it has side slits. This silhouette further enhances the vintage feel.

Regarding sizing, if you have room, we recommend trying one size up from your usual size.

One point I'd like you to pay particular attention to is the difference in the number of pockets. It would have been easier to just use the same pattern, so why did they change it instead? The answer is simply "to make the pattern look beautiful."

It would be easy to reduce the effort involved in the process and produce something of a certain level, but we want to deliver something that is filled with attention to detail and that will satisfy everyone.

We hope you will experience the subtle points of dedication that the craftsmen and design team have put into their work.

I personally think I was able to put together a great-looking style. When you think of aloha shirts, you might want to pair them with cool items like sandals, but I also recommend pairing Nigel Cabourn's aloha shirts with boots.

Please come and experience these "meticulously crafted aloha shirts" that are packed with the roots of ancient Japan.

We look forward to your visit and inquiries.
