Hello everyone. This is Sakakibara from Ginza Novo.
The end-of-year/New Year season is finally upon us, and the cold weather is finally here.
Warming up against the cold is essential, but we'd like to introduce some items that allow you to enjoy stylish layering.

Sailor collars are typically characterised by their large collars, but the collar designed by Nigel Cabourn Woman has been updated to be more compact.
It is a one-of-a-kind piece that is modern yet exudes a vintage feel.
Today, I'd like to suggest two co-ordination patterns layered with the MARINE BLOUSE C/L.

In the photo reference our designer used, we thought the combination of a work jumpsuit and a sailor collar was cute, so we tried to recreate it with the JAPANESE FARMER COAT DRESS.
The white sailor collar stands out against the charcoal grey - it's a colour combination we really like.
We added some dark blue accessories to add an accent.

The V-neck line and sailor collar of the ARMY JERSEY MIX C/D match perfectly.
The vibrant blue goes great with denim!
Did you know that sailor collars were originally worn by men?
01|Clothing designed for sailors

It originated from the sailor uniforms of the British Navy, and is said to have been designed for sailors.
First of all, there are various theories about the large collar around the neck, but the commonly held belief is that it was designed to be raised to improve sound amplification when it was difficult to hear on deck due to the sound of waves and wind.
Another advantage is that large collars float easily in water and spread out even in the sea, making them easy to spot from a ship.

The inverted triangle on the chest is said to have been made to make it easier to remove in the event of an accidental fall overboard.
At the time the sailor suit was adopted, Britain had colonies all over the world and was so powerful that it was nicknamed "the empire on which the sun never sets."
As the uniform for the naval sailors of such a great nation, it could be said to have been at the cutting edge of marine fashion.
The British Navy, wearing sailor suits, operated all over the world, showcasing Britain's might.
Perhaps thanks to this, navies around the world began to imitate the uniforms of British sailors.
At the time, sailors were a symbol of masculinity.
While today this style of collar is more strongly associated with women, there are several reasons why women began wearing them.
02|The arrival of the boyish boom
In the 19th century, women's clothing typically featured a corset cinched in at the waist and a voluminous, puffy skirt.
The 19th century was also a time when there was a global call for improving the lives of women.
Due to the feudal, patriarchal system, women had a low status in society and were confined to the home to give birth and raise children.
It can be said that the fact that women continued to speak out without succumbing to the oppression that was the norm in a male-dominated society, led to major change.
