The FRENCH WORK PANTS are made from HEMP CANVAS fabric and have proven popular this season. The greatest appeal of these pants is their wide silhouette, and they have earned the utmost trust from the Nigel Cabourn staff over the years.
For the HIGH SUMMER COLLECTION, we have adopted "WABASH DENIM" for the French work pants style.
WABASH is a traditional American pattern of small polka dots. There are various theories as to why this was named, but it is believed that the pattern is inspired by the flow of the Wabash River in the United States.
This pattern is often applied using a discharge printing method on indigo dyed fabric, and is also used on chambray fabric in the HIGH SUMMER COLLECTION.
This product is made from 100% cotton light-weight denim. Being a workwear fabric, WABASH is often used for heavy-weight denim, so it is rare to see it used for light-weight denim like this. Moreover, because of its thickness, it will be even more difficult to find a similar product.
This style does not have a hammer loop or tool pocket, which shows that it was inspired by vintage French farmer or railroad worker items.
At first glance it appears to be a simple design, but the waist area shows many elements of work pants.
There are two waist buttons for added strength.
Apparently two-button designs were rare at the time due to material shortages and cuts to supplies. This product appears to have adopted two buttons in response to these times.
This is a watch pocket designed to store a pocket watch.
After World War II, as wristwatches became more mainstream instead of pocket watches, people began to put coins in these pockets instead of pocket watches, and so these pockets came to be called watch pockets or coin pockets. So despite differing names, both are true.
The back style features a cinch back, a typical detail of work pants, and a V-shaped slit design to ensure freedom of movement.
The single pocket also adds to the credibility that the design is vintage-inspired.
The deep pleated tucks at the waist are the highlight of this piece. This tuck creates a three-dimensional silhouette.
This thickness of the fabric and shape of the legs means less surface area comes into contact with the skin and therefore has good ventilation, making it comfortable to wear even during the height of summer.
You should definitely try out this lightweight and comfortable fit.

In order to bring out the vibrant colour of the pants, I've styled this outfit with other items in black.
In the summer, it's great to pair it with an open collar shirt or a t-shirt like this. Although the trousers are patterned, they can easily be styled in the same way as denim.
They would also look good paired with a coverall like this. Another great thing about this silhouette is that it doesn't look too American casual even when paired with work-style items.
