My first blog since moving here will be about this line, which releases standout items every season.
This work suit line focuses on working people in the UK and Europe from the 1900s to the 1940s. The items are made from yarn blends created by dismantling and studying faded photographs, books, and vintage samples, and they evoke the atmosphere of the time.
To date, they have created suits for many different professions, including shoemakers, farmers, stonemasons, and architects. Now in their fifth season, the focus is on coal miners.

COAL MINER
Following the Industrial Revolution, coal mining became a major industry in European countries with the development of the steam engine and steel production. Each region had its own unique coal mining design, with national characteristics being reflected in clothing designs.
This time, we targeted the French type, which is both durable and beautiful.
First, we'll explain this fabric, which you may not be familiar with.

BILLIARD CLOTH
As the name suggests, we aimed for a texture similar to that of billiard table fabric, and after much trial and error we finally arrived at this fabric.
The yarn is made by mixing dyed raw wool, and we paid particular attention to the colour combination to achieve a deep look. Designer Zuki says that nine colours were used.
The finished fabric is then shrunk and treated to prevent further shrinkage, resulting in a tightly woven wool melton that ensures excellent heat retention. The shrink-proof nature of the fabric makes it washable, although only by hand.

This product is based on a French work jacket from the 1940s. However, unlike the usual French work jackets, it has a lapel design and was said to have been worn by senior officers such as team leaders and site supervisors.
The chest pocket combines a pocket for pens, tools, etc. with a watch pocket.
The gently curved pocket openings are reminiscent of older jackets, when attention was paid to tailoring.
I think the greatest feature of this product is the detail on the back.
This detail is called a martingale, and this shaping creates a beautiful French silhouette.
It's clear that this detail was chosen because the garment was worn by someone in a position to supervise and monitor work.
Although it is simply workwear, it is both durable and beautiful, making it a versatile jacket that can be worn with both dress and work styles.

Like the jacket, this style is based on the French-style overalls worn in the 1940s.
In Britain, they're called dungarees.
In America, they're called overalls.
In France, they're called salopettes.
The figure-eight zipper is a common sight on vintage items, but this time they've chosen not to follow suit and instead only feature one back pocket, which is a clever point.
This detail is so distinctive that you can tell it's a European item, as it has been used by many different workwear brands.
The staggered loops are to prevent hammers and other tools from getting caught on each other when hanging them.

Compared to jackets, overalls have a stronger work-like impression, but the billiard cloth gives them a refined and smart look.
The greatest feature of this item is that it combines the charms of two contradictory elements - workwear and elegance.
