This collaboration item was created to mark the third anniversary of FRAW, a women's select shop in Shanghai that is an official retailer of Nigel Cabourn WOMAN.
ep1. The Story Behind the Product
FRAW, a select shop based in Shanghai. The husband-and-wife team that runs the store have known Nigel for nearly 10 years.
When they launched the store, they were commissioned to create a custom DUFFLE COAT for Nigel Cabourn WOMAN.
Many of you may remember that the NAVAL DUFFLE COAT, featuring the same pattern, was subsequently released in AW23.
For this dungaree, FRAW once again reached out to me, saying, "I've seen a lot of different dungarees out there, but Nigel Cabourn has the expertise to create the ideal dungaree."
The base of the design was a skirt dungaree from their archives.
We utilised its elements while revising the pattern and details to bring it to life.
ep2. About the Fabric
Both colours feature Nigel Cabourn's familiar classic denim.
【 Indigo 】
There is a complex, rich texture running vertically that is clearly different from regular denim. This is because the warp threads are randomly woven with different counts of 6, 7, and 8.
It has a rich volume, natural texture, and a three-dimensional structure that is completely different from the flat, uniform feel of regular denim.
Another part of Indigo's appeal is that you can enjoy different fading, such as whiskers and creases, just by changing how often you wear it or how many times you wash it.
The easiest way to understand the shape of these pants is to think of them as the silhouette of the Wide Chino Pant, a classic item for Nigel Cabourn women.
We're sure there are many people who have been waiting for wide dungarees.
【 Ivory 】
We use number 6 yarn for the warp, recreating an uneven look that is close to vintage.
It also has the distinctive texture of a shuttle loom fabric.
The fabric is woven with reduced tension, taking time to weave slowly and bring out the natural softness of the cotton.
The colour is off-white, with the natural brownish hue of cotton.
This colour brings out the full potential of cotton in both texture and appearance.
The breastplate features the magazine pocket, a symbol of the British military.
At the time, these pockets were used to hold gun magazines, but today they are just the right size to fit a smartphone.
The pocket is made of high-density cotton weathercloth.
Weathercloth was originally a plain weave fabric that was durable and waterproof enough to withstand bad weather. The name "weather" comes from the English word for "weather," and its original use for military raincoats.
These dungarees are inspired by work pants from the 1920s, with a design that has been updated to suit modern lifestyles.
LYBRO releases dungarees every season, but it has been many years since they were released for the Nigel Cabourn Women's line.
These dungarees have workwear elements, but also emphasise a feminine silhouette.
