《Thermal beyond thermal》US ARMY LONG SLEEVE - MIX

Thank you for reading my blog.
This is Uenishi from the Okayama store.

"I want a top with good thermal insulation!"

You're bound to hear this when the temperature starts to drop...!

There are countless thin and lightweight synthetic blend tops on the market, but they're not quite enough to pair with work or military styles.

For those of you who are struggling to find a top like me, I recommend the US ARMY LONG SLEEVE - MIX, a thick thermal made from 100% cotton!

You might be thinking, "Aren't thermals just for innerwear?" But this thermal is quite thick, so it can totally be used as a top. Of course, I recommend it as an inner layer as well.

This product has a unique design that you can't really appreciate until you try it on, so I think very few people will notice how good it is just by looking at it.

I've purchased it and am actually wearing it, so I'd like to explain what I think of this product!

First, a quick look at the features of thermals.

Thermals are highly insulating cut-and-sew garments made from waffle- or honeycomb-patterned fabric with numerous bumps on the surface.

The bumps that come into contact with the skin provide just the right amount of support, while the recessed areas that don't touch the skin create a layer of air. This air layer is key.

The air layer in the recessed areas prevents heat (air) generated by body heat from escaping.

Warm air constantly accumulates between the skin and the thermal, and when a jacket or other garment is worn over it, the heat is trapped, maximising the insulation effect.

It's the same principle as a down jacket.

This product has a honeycomb-patterned body and waffle-patterned arms, a feature you won't appreciate until you try it on.

One thing I noticed when trying it on was that there was a slight difference in comfort between the honeycomb and waffle fabrics.

The honeycomb felt thick and gave a sense of security, like being protected, while the waffle fabric felt more flexible than the honeycomb.

In other words, stability is provided in the body section, which move less, while mobility is pursued in the arms, which move more.

This is a design detail that you can't really appreciate until you try it on.
When I noticed the difference in comfort, I couldn't help but exclaim...!

In the days before synthetic fibres existed, stretch was achieved by using cotton alone in ribbing. To achieve stretch without synthetic fibres, a certain length was necessary, which is why the ribbing is so long.

Another advantage was that the long ribbing fit snugly around the wrist, preventing outside air from entering and preventing air warmed by body heat from escaping.

The ribbing was made longer to ensure stretch and improve warmth.

All seams that come into contact with the skin are finished with flat seams, so you won't feel the stitching rubbing against your skin.

The comfort is most noticeable around the ribs.
This is another detail that you can't really understand until you try it on.

We've put together some styling using this thermal!
