The "jerkin vest" is actually an item with a very long history. It was originally a short jacket worn by English soldiers in the 16th and 17th centuries. At this time, it was not only used as part of military uniforms, but was also popular as practical clothing that emphasised warmth and ease of movement.

The outer material is made from Australian deer leather. Deer leather has fine fibres and a unique bonded texture. It is extremely soft and has a buttery feel to it, so much so that it is often referred to as the cashmere of leather. It is also durable, can be used for a long time, and above all, has the warmth that only natural materials can provide.
Deerskin is much easier to care for than other leather materials. It's stain-resistant, so you can keep it looking nice by simply wiping it with a soft cloth on a daily basis. Plus, if you give it proper moisturising care, you can enjoy its softness and lustre for a long time. It's not that difficult to care for, so the appeal is that you can keep it looking beautiful for a long time.
Another attractive feature is its lightness, making it comfortable to wear for long periods of time. The wide armholes and relaxed silhouette make it easy to layer.
