To launch the AW16 Mainline collection Nigel Cabourn hosted a Japanese themed event at his Army Gym store on Henrietta Street in Covent Garden, London.
This collection features vintage inspired designs updated with contemporary details and made in specially developed fabrics, all carefully crafted in Japan.
New innovations for this collection include the revolutionary HALFTEX fabric, which has been created by the Japanese design team using 100% nylon and specialist techniques to make a lightweight, functional, showerproof material but with a cotton drill look and feel. HALFTEX has been used in three garments in this collection – the vintage inspired Balmacaan Coat and two piece, casual work wear style suit, Hospital Jacket and Pant.
Other specially developed fabrics in the collection include the unique cotton linen denim and a Harris Tweed inspired wool, which has been produced using the same techniques and looms as weavers used in the 1900s. This tweed has been used to produce a three-piece suit inspired by Nigel’s Authentic Mallory design. As usual, with Cabourn collections, attention to detail is key and Mainline is no exception with special design features and hardware, such as a hand crafted ‘anchor’ horn button on the Balmacaan Coat.
