NC AROUND TOWN | STEPHEN ANTHONY DAVIDS, ARTIST.
STEPHEN ANTHONY DAVIS, LYBRO SPLIT BLK/NVY HOODED CHORE JACKET.
For our second outing of NC Around Town we caught up with artist and original Londoner Stephen Anthony Davids (SAD) at his studio on the canal in the Olympic Park, East London.
Known for his distinctive bold and vibrant style Stephen captures masculinity, race, class, social history and humorous views of the world and observations of daily life. Working in paint, pen and sculpture on a diverse range of canvases including found wooden objects, glass and Victorian ledgers, it’s this spontaneous and vibrancy that we love.
“A good garment it is all in the detailing as much as it is in the ‘hang’. I like the jacket but I love the blue hood. The cut looks great and the detailing again is second to none.”
Stephen describes his personal style as simple but classic and is a self-professed lover of navy blue, a nice cut shirt and a good shoe. He comes into his own at this time of year style wise as the autumn/winter season gives him the opportunity to wear his favorite sweaters and layers. He admits to living mostly in his oil paint covered Diesel Jeans usually paired with a Champion reverse weave sweat and battered RM Williams Chelsea boots of which, he has two pairs, one to lounge in and one for street.
He styled his everyday look with Nigel’s Lybro Hooded Chore Jacket – navy blue of course – a real work wear piece with its roots in US Navy gear. Aside from the colour it was the hood, details and mix of fabrics that drew him to it – one of those garments that will wear well and look better with age.
STEPHEN’S AW19 CABOURN SELECTIONS.
Split Black Navy Hooded Chore Jacket
This new style has its roots firmly in US Navy work wear with the added touch of a hood. It’s made in a mix of fabrics with the top half in raw Japanese denim and the bottom in soft moleskin cotton, which will both wash and wear beautifully.
Worn White POH Deck Shirt
Based on a very rare vintage American work wear shirt Nigel has in his archive, this POH style shirt has been reproduced with the same detail as the original – from the cut, pockets right down to the metal buttons to fasten on the front and cuffs. A perfect shirt to pull over a tee or sweat.
Navy Embroidered Globe Hoodie
Based on a vintage military training hoody this great new style also references Nigel’s own design archive with the addition of an embroidered Globe logo developed during the eighties on the front. Made in 350gsm loopback cotton jersey this hoody, with its ‘kangaroo’ pocket, looks great worn as a top or mid layer.
