This time, I would like to convey the charm of HEMP, which has been used by many people and which I love so much that I have purchased more than 10 items myself.
Nigel Cabourn mainly releases items made from HEMP DENIM and HEMP CANVAS.
We also have mixes with HEMP POPLIN and linen, but this time we will focus on the first two.
Please note that all items shown in the photos are personal items and some may currently be sold out.
I think that more items will be made with these fabrics in the future, so I would like to introduce them to you.
Hemp is the material used for the shimenawa ropes at Izumo Taisha Shrine, and as you can probably gather, it is a strong material that is not normally used for clothing.
It takes considerable skill to transform it into something that can be worn. It is said that the material only becomes soft after 10 years of wear. This is also true of Harris Tweed, a material that will finally become your own after wearing it for 10 years.
By undergoing a process called wet spinning, the material can be conditioned to a state that is suitable for sale in stores. There is also a similar process called dry spinning, but this is often used for things other than clothing. Using double yarn results in a fluffy, heavy fabric.

Hemp is highly versatile, and Zuki the head designer is constantly expanding its possibilities.
FRENCH WORK PANT - HEMP CANVAS

Among all of the hemp items I would especially recommend, are these pants.
These pants are the best buy I've made in the six years since I joined the company.
The top one is new, the bottom one is my own.
I bought them when they were first released, and have worn it at least twice a week since. They are now so soft that it is hard to imagine it being new. However, after washing and drying, the fabric returns to its firmness. This is a look that is unique to hemp canvas and cannot be found in hemp denim.
The colour fading was also surprising.
As it softens, the pants will not feel as thick as they did at first, so we recommend choosing a slightly larger size if you want to keep the same feel.
Today I went to work wearing a baseball shirt, and a SS20 LYBRO blouson jacket with a pin attached. I like to coordinate my outfits in a cohesive way, so I often wear a beige pullover with a Filson game bag. Please try combining it with various items you already own.
The next recommendation is hemp denim.
Unfortunately, this fabric did not appear this season. These items were released in Spring/Summer and Fall/Winter in 2024, and we received so many pre-orders, with some items even selling out at our Okayama store.
I myself bought these pants when they first came out, and have continued to buy more. I have worn them hundreds of times. The fabric feels soft and smooth now, like combed wool.
One of our customers came in wearing hemp denim that hadn't been washed yet, so we took a photo of it.
As you can see, the colour has faded quite a bit. I wore them often so the colour faded quickly. I do regret that I didn't take more time to enjoy the original shade.
They are also available in charcoal grey, and the fabric changes in the same way as the indigo.
When I asked about the incredible skill required to turn a material that isn't normally used for clothing into something like this, I was told that the fabric is made in Okayama Prefecture.
It is located about a 10-minute drive from the factories that make oue RAILMAN DENIM PANT and BRITISH ARMY PANT-LOOSE DENIM, which shows that the denim industry is thriving here. However, many OX'ed Silver items are made in more than just denim fabric.
By the way, it was in the news a while ago that the company that makes the aforementioned Railman Denim had proposed a partnership with a world-famous brand.
This brand's denim pants cost over 300,000 yen. Of course, that price includes the value of the brand's name, but it's still an incredible price.
Zuki has the connections to help him use these specialist fabrics.
Such popular items like these pants move quickly, so you may not be able to purchase the size or colour you want.
